2 Ways to Turn Off WordPress Maintenance Mode

One of the most used CMS infrastructures in the world is WordPress. This infrastructure puts itself into maintenance mode in some operations. In WordPress maintenance mode, it quickly shows the maintenance page to the visitors. This notifies users that they are in maintenance while you provide transactions. Let's look at the answers to the questions of what is this maintenance mode, how to close the maintenance mode.

What is WordPress Maintenance Mode?

It is a temporary process that is taken while providing the transaction in Wordpress systems. This screen can be edited, but if it is not edited, the default screen of the Wordpress system will be shown to the visitors.

We shared that it is a temporary screen, so what are the things that trigger this screen, let's examine it together.

How/Why Activate Wordpress Maintenance Mode?

There are many possibilities in this regard, but in general, we can list the reasons as follows:

  • Wordpress system updates
  • On plugin updates
  • On theme updates
  • Manual activation
  • In case of errors in the files or the Wordpress system itself

The system automatically puts itself into maintenance mode.

If you have not taken any action and you are in maintenance mode when you log in to your website, automatic updating may be turned on.

How to Turn Off WordPress Maintenance Mode?

In some cases, this maintenance mode may not be temporary even if you wait. In some cases, if the update fails, it may not automatically exit maintenance mode. In this case, you can think of Wordpress stuck in maintenance mode . If this is the case, you need to manually delete your maintenance file.

You can delete the maintenance file in 2 different ways.

Deleting with File Manager of Hosting Control Panel

The logic is the same in almost all hosting control panels, but the way we will show you today will be to delete the maintenance mode file via Cpanel . After logging in to our panel, we log in to the public_html folder. If the show hidden folders option is turned off, we turn it on.

If you have opened your hidden folders and it was open before, we delete the .maintenance file.

Deleting Maintenance File with FTP Client

If you don't want to deal with the hosting control panel, you can delete the .maintenance file with any FTP client ( such as FileZilla , WinCP ) .

We connect to our FTP Client and log into the public_html folder again. We select the maintenance file and then delete it.

In conclusion

In both cases we check our website again when we delete the file that triggered the Wordpress maintenance mode. Your website will open automatically.

You may not have updates when you exit maintenance mode. In this case, you have to reboot.

If you have enabled maintenance mode through a different plugin, you may need to remove or disable your related plugin.

In this article, we have shared with you what the maintenance mode encountered in Wordpress systems is and how to disable it. Do not forget to mention the questions or problems that you have in your mind in the comments section.
